Entry Pathways

UOW Shoalhaven offers a variety of flexible pathways into our degree programs. If you want to get a university qualification, we will help you find a way.

High School Students

The most common entry into one of our degrees is via the ATAR usually gained by completing Year 12/HSC. You can apply using your results regardless of where or when you completed school. We can translate your marks into an ATAR as part of the application process. You can search for the minimum ATAR for degrees at UOW Shoalhaven in the UOW Course Finder. Use these ranks as a guide only.

Current year 12 students completing their HSC in local schools are eligible for adjustment factors based on performance in relevant HSC subjects. These points will be automatically applied for admission to our courses.

Even if you have not completed the current NSW HSC (or equivalent) in full, or you did not receive the required entry mark, you may still qualify for admission.

Pathways to UOW

There’s more than one way to the future that you want, but sometimes things can be happening in your life that makes studying to get there hard. The Pathways team wants to help you find a way to pursue your career and study goals in a way that works for you:

TAFE/AQF Qualifications

The following qualifications may be submitted for assessment of entry eligibility:

  • Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level IV Certificate (excluding trade certificates).
  • Diploma (TAFE) *
  • Advanced Diploma *
  • Associate Diploma *

* Some credit transfer may be granted for these awards.

TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC)

The TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) is an option for people who wish to gain entrance to the University and for whom a HSC course may be inappropriate. Entry is dependent on the level of academic performance achieved in the TPC. For more information about the Tertiary Preparation course at Nowra Campus please phone 4421 9888 or visit the the TAFE Illawarra website.

Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP)

The Woolyungah Indigenous Centre at UOW offers an Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP) to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It assesses applicants’ suitability for study at UOW based on a series of tests and interviews instead of the ATAR.

It is available to all students of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent who are 17 years old or older.

Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)

You can gain entry to UOW via the two hour multiple choice STAT. The STAT is designed to assess a range of skills and knowledge you will need for tertiary study. It is coordinated by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and held several times a year.

Applicants must be 21 years of age (by 1 March in the year of admission) to use the STAT as a basis of admission. STAT cannot be used to gain admission to Engineering, IT, Law, Mathematics, Physics or Psychology (Honours) degrees.

Completed or partially-completed tertiary studies

If you have gained admission to another university and/or partially completed a university degree, you may use this as entry into our degree courses. You need an appropriate record of achievement from an approved university. You may also be eligible for some advanced standing from subjects completed. Documents must be accompanied by an official English translation if they were produced in another language.

University Entrance Program

UOW College can guarantee admission into a range of UOW undergraduate degrees by successfully completing the University Entrance Program (UEP).

The UEP is a 14-week course to give you the fundamental skills required for university-level study and maximise your chance of success.

Successful completion of the UEP provides guaranteed entry to most UOW undergraduate Bachelor degrees offered at Shoalhaven Campus.
