Question
I haven't written an essay before (or for a very long time!) and I'm not sure what is required.
Answer
Some of the early tasks that you undertake during your studies will seem quite daunting and you may feel that you don't know where to begin with your assignment. It is recommended that you read the question (or assignment task) a number of times so that you fully understand the question. Please remember that no one expects you or your research to answer all of the world's problems - you are only expected to read, understand and provide an analysis or argument that satisfies the criteria of the question at hand. It is also important to remember that all university students and staff are here for the same reason - to learn.
Should you require some specialist advice and instruction concerning essay writing and seminar presentation skills, please contact the University's Learning Resource Centre at the Wollongong campus (Bldg 19 Room G102). You can visit or call the Centre (02-4221-3977) during normal business hours for assistance with your studies. Their website is at http://www.uow.edu.au/student/services/ld/index.html
The Coordinators at the Access Centre are also there to assist with your study-related problems and concerns and to point you in the right direction for assistance from a variety of University services and facilities.
