AOSC History

August 2009

Masayuki Takagi, from the Prefectural University of Hiroshima, Japan, commenced his 4 month Endeavour Executive Award scholarship. He is being hosted by AOSC.

July 2009

Dr Alison Wicks presented a paper a the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa Conference in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and then participated in the Occupational Justice Symposium and Think Tank hosted by the University of Cape Town, in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr Wicks was a guest lecturer for the Occupational Therapy program in the School of Health, University of Newcastle.

Dalhousie University, in Halifax, Canada re appointed Dr Wicks as Adjunct Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy and Adjunct Academic in the Faculty of Graduate Studies

May – June 2009

AOSC undertook a consultancy for Macquarie University.

April 2009

AOSC received $10,000 from Medibank Private to support student research on occupational issues in the work place. See link to media release: http://media.uow.edu.au/releases/UOW059098.html.

Exhibitions of the Nowra Skate Park project were held at the Shoalhaven City Council, Nowra Youth Centre and Shoalhaven Campus during Youth Week.

January-February 2009

AOSC conducted a workshop on occupation-focused practice for the Occupational Therapy Department at Royal North Shore Hospital, in Sydney.

Another two students, undertaking a Masters in Health Science ( Occupational Therapy) at the University of Western Ontario, Canada completed a 6 week fieldwork placement at AOSC.

November 2008

Dr Wicks was keynote speaker at the Inaugural Occupational Science Symposium in Taipei, Taiwan.

September 2008

AOSC awarded a prize in the 2008 Meroogal Women’s Art Prize for the work that best represented an occupational perspective. The winner was Bethany Thurtell for her work, 'Circle of Life'.
Dr Alison Wicks was a keynote speaker at the 14th ENOTHE meeting in Berlin. She was also a visiting scholar at Hogeschool van Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and at Karolinksa Institute in Sweden.

June 2008

AOSC and the UOW School of Art & Design co-hosted the Digital Storytelling Exhibition to show case the project work of the 3rd year graphic design students.

January- February 2008

AOSC provided a 6 week fieldwork placement for two students undertaking a Masters in Health Science at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario in Canada. These students were the first international exchange students at Shoalhaven Campus. Click here for more information

December 2007

Dr Wicks was a keynote speaker at the 11th Japanese Occupational Science Symposium in Kurashiki and Visiting Scholar at Seirei Christopher University in Hamamatsu and at Hiroshima Prefectural University at Mihara in Japan.

November 2007

AOSC was selected for inclusion in the CEDIR Spotlight on Learning and Teaching Expo.

Dr Wicks appointed as a Senior Lecturer - Occupational Science (.5 position) in UOW Faculty of Health & Behavioural Science.

April 2007

The Second International Occupational Science Think Tank was held on Catalina Island, California, USA and organised by Dr Wicks.

Dr Wicks was elected Chair, Interim Executive, of the International Society for Occupational Science (ISOS).

February 2007

Dr Wicks commenced a 3 month International Fellowship at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

December 2006

Publication of reports on Do It Now and the Inaugural International Occuaptional Science Think Tank.

July 2006

AOSC hosted the Inaugural International Occupational Science Think Tank.

June 2006

Completion of Do It Now project and cessation of DOTARS funding.

January 2006

Dr Wicks appointed for 3 years as an Honorary Research Fellow with Centre for Health Service Development.

December 2005

Tony Messner OAM was appointed as a Board member of AOSC Pty Ltd. He replaces John Penkaitas who will be the AOSC Pty Ltd Honorary Accountant.

June 2005

The Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS) announced funding of $60,500 to support the first AOSC project, "Do it now".

February 2005

AOSC Pty Ltd submitted an application for funding through the Department of Regional Transport and Services' Regional Partnerships Scheme

January 2005

Dr Wicks was appointed as Research Fellow with the Faculty of Commerce, University of Wollongong

December 2004

UOW Research Services Office agreed to situate AOSC within Centre for Health Service Development in the Faculty of Commerce.

Shoalhaven City Council accepted a Mayoral Minute on 21 December, to support the development of the AOSC as an educational and research centre at the Shoalhaven Campus.

November 2004

AOSC Pty Ltd was formed by some prominent Shoalhaven business persons to support the establishment of the AOSC.

September 2004

Dr Wicks recruited the support of a Board of Consultants, consisting of research, education and occupational science experts from around the world.

Dr Alison Wicks began lobbying the University of Wollongong (UOW), the Shoalhaven community and relevant stakeholders and organisations for support to establish the AOSC at the University's Shoalhaven Campus in Nowra.
